The Honeypot Ant lives in the Australian bush and exists to store emergency food supplies when their colony is in need. Worker ants feed these insects nectar until their abdomens swell like a golden balloon the size of a small grape. The honeypot ant then carries the sugary liquid on their back until the food reserves are required.

Honeypot Ants are also part of the diet for some of Australia’s indigenous peoples, and David Attenborough was filmed eating one himself in his 1990 Trials Of Life documentary.
