The Emperor penguin is the heaviest and tallest penguin in Antarctica. Emperor penguins grow up to 1 metre in height and weigh anything from 49-99lbs. Emperor penguins are the only species to breed during the Antarctic winter, with emperor penguins trekking 31-75 miles to the breeding colonies.
Temperatures in Antarctica often drop to -60°C, so to survive in extreme temperatures, emperor penguins have large stores of insulating body fat and layers of feathers. They also huddle close together in groups to keep each other warm.
