A Little Bit of History
Bigjigs Toys Ltd was established in 1985 by Peter and Liz Ireland, both teachers in their previous careers. They decided to develop a company that would make learning fun with the use of traditional wooden toys.
At the very beginning Peter and Liz could be found working in their garden shed, cutting out pieces of wooden jigsaw puzzles by hand. They would sell the jigsaw puzzles at local craft fairs and agricultural shows, travelling far and wide to find their customers.
Since then, Peter and Liz’s two sons have also joined the family business and helped extend the Bigjigs family to a team of dedicated staff who are passionate about educational and fun toys.
Our current range of toys extends to over 1500 high quality products, including the popular Bigjigs Rail collection, dolls, outdoor toys, role play items and of course, wooden jigsaw puzzles! Today we supply independent toy shops in over 35 countries throughout Europe, Australasia, South Africa and the USA.
Designed in Britain and Fully Safety Tested
Here at Bigjigs Toys we are serious about product safety testing and play value, which is why our products exceed the EN71 toy safety testing standard and are only ever coloured using child-safe paints. Bigjigs Toys products are lovingly designed in Britain by our designers who work hard to include as much play and educational value in each and every toy as possible.
As part of our commitment to our retailers and growing customer base, orders placed on the Bigjigs Toys website are often fulfilled by independent toy shops based on their stock levels and geographical location. By purchasing from our website, you are helping to support your local high street and, more importantly, your local toy shop.
The Bigjigs Toys team has grown enormously since the early days of Liz and Peter making wooden jigsaw puzzles in their garden shed. There is now a large and ever-growing team working at our headquarters in Kent, South East England, all of whom are dedicated to providing outstanding customer service and cherished toys that are enjoyed year after year.
