Fun Mother and Child Activities for Mother’s Day
Quick, there’s still time to do something nice for Mum this Mother’s Day. If you’re stuck for ideas, read up on our mother and child activity ideas that are bound to make Mother’s Day 2022 a success.
Create a Handmade Mother’s Day Card
Grab your crayons, markers and colouring pens to make Mum a special card to show her how much you care. You can decorate the card with coloured tissue paper, stickers, glitter, or even real flowers picked from the garden. Wondering what to write in a Mother’s Day card? Here are some pointers…
- You’re the best Mummy in the world
- Wishing you a Mother's Day that's as wonderful as you
- Out of all the Mums in the world, I'm so glad that you're mine
- Congrats, you did a great job raising me to be awesome
- Thanks for being my Mum
- I love you so much
Make a Scrapbook
A good excuse to crack out the old photo album (or print off some phone pics), mother and child can bond over precious memories. You can each take it in turns making your own scrapbook pages so every page is unique. Use colouring pens to create interesting doodles and don’t forget to add some funky stickers to add a fun personal touch.
Finish a Jigsaw Puzzle
Work as a team to bring the puzzle picture to life! Our vibrant 48-piece African Adventure floor puzzle has a busy safari scene to put together. With plenty to look at and discuss, it’s the ideal way to bond and have an enjoyable parent-child experience.
Our brand new Garden Caddy is perfect for planting seeds in outdoor flower beds or window boxes. Includes child-sized gardening gloves, a ruler, a trowel, a fork, a rake and much more. Children can watch in delight as they see their seed slowly blossom into a plant or flower and can reap the rewards of their hard work
Have a Pizza Party
Did someone say pizza? Little chefs can help out in the kitchen and make some pizzas with Mum. If you’re up to the challenge, why not give this easy recipe a go? Once done, you could enjoy a cosy afternoon watching films and eating pizza!
Homemade Pizza Recipe
300g white bread flour (plus extra for dusting)
1 tsp instant yeast
1 tbsp olive oil
For the tomato sauce
1 tbsp olive oil
2 crushed garlic cloves
For the topping
8 mozzarella pearls (halved)
Small bunch of fresh basil leaves
Step 1 - Tip the flour into a bowl and stir in the years and 1 tsp of salt. Add 200ml warm water (not too hot) alongside the oil. Stir together until the dough turns soft and wet.
Step 2 - Tip the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5 mins until smooth. Cover with a tea towel and leave to prove for an hour until the dough has doubled in size.
Step 3 - Whilst the dough is proving, you can make the tomato sauce. Put some oil in a small pan and lightly fry the garlic, then add the passata and simmer until thickened. Leave to cool.
Step 4 - Once the dough has risen, knead it in a bowl, then tip out onto a lightly floured surface then cut into two balls. Roll out each ball into a thin, large teardrop shape (around 25cm across).
Step 5 - Heat the oven to 240C/220C fan/gas 9 with a big baking sheet inside. Put the base onto the baking sheet. Smooth the sauce over the pizza bases with the back of a spoon and scatter the mozzarella, drizzle the olive oil and season. Put the pizzas into the oven and bake for 8-10 mins.
Psst, if you’re not cut out for cooking, a takeaway pizza will suffice as a nice treat!
Plan a Picnic
If the weather’s looking good, why not head outdoors for a picnic? Your little one can help choose what to take, assist with making the sandwiches and even bring their own little Picnic Basket. Picnics allow kids to absorb everything that’s going on around them, get energised playing outdoor games, and enjoy good food with their favourite person (Mum, obviously).
Make a Gift
They say diamonds are a girls best friend. Whilst we can’t help you make Mum a diamond necklace, we think our Heart Necklace kids jewellery set is just as a good. Crafty kids can ice the felt heart with the deco cream and then decorate it with colourful sprinkles and rainbow and cloud charms. Mum’s going to love her new one-of-a-kind necklace!
